The above quote is on the back of the case. Some may think it's a bit presumptious on sony's part there, but there is no denying dragoon is amongst the best RPG's ever.

Long ago I thought that final fantasy was "the" RPG to have/play. I got this not long after it was released back in 2000. I played it through and traded it in. About 2 years ago I managed to get it again off ebay.

In the game you play Dart and are on a quest to find the black monster. And yes as most people do, there are some notable comparisons with the FF series. Instead of GF's (guardian forces) each character in dragoon morph's into a dragoon warrior and uses magic and physical attacks. Unlike the GF's though you can choose which magic attack to use based on how many enemies you have on screen as some magic attacks are individual and others are group attacks. Each with their own special abilities and attributes. Some even heal the team or give bonuses.

Graphic wise the game is great to look at with all pre-rendered backgrounds and the detail on the towns and cities is outstanding. 10/10

Sound is fairly generic with noises that suit the attacks of your team and also the enemy. But the battle music is what really sets the tempo. 7/10

Gameplay/story, the game is very big and can take up to 20 hours sometimes longer to get through the first disc. The level up system is done very well and easy to follow. The addition system is a nice touch giving your character's additional strikes after the first one lands. However you do need quick reflexes as you will need to time your strikes with the button press on screen.

The game also utilizes a block move which is done well. When you use the block move it does 2 things. First it gives you back 25% health each time you use it, and the other thing it does is halve any damage received from all attacks. It also nulls out any abnormal statuses like petrify or fear etc. (This also happens when you transform into a dragoon as well.)

This is a must have for any avid RPG player, though dated by today's standards Dragoon still holds it's own.
